Government continues protecting Fossil Fuel Industry
The federal government continues to subsidize fossil fuels while the Supreme Court rolls back environmental protections
Net Zero by 2050 is too late
New IPCC report says that we need to halt all new fossil fuel infrastructure and rapidly phase out existing infrastructure
The Inflation Reduction Act won’t save us
The Inflation Reduction Act is not strong enough to prevent climate and ecological collapse
2023 IPCC Report
The latest IPCC report says this is our final chance to act if we want any chance of avoiding 1.5 degrees C heating. Warns that climate change is making Earth “uninhabitable”
Recent Reports from the IPCC and IEA
Reports from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the International Energy Agency
Biden administration keeps greenlighting fossil fuels
Biden administration and COP still not taking bold action on climate that’s in line with protecting us from climate and ecological collapse
Melting Permafrost
Melting permafrost will emit trapped carbon and methane and could potentially release dangerous viruses
Sea level rise: Glacial and Ice sheet Melt
Glaciers and ice sheets are melting faster than scientists projected, locking in sea-level rise that puts coastal communities at risk
Animal Agriculture
Animal agriculture produces around 15% of global emissions and requires massive amounts of deforestation and fresh water
Radiative Forcing
Radiative forcing is a holistic way of understanding earth’s energy balance
Uninhabitable Earth
Because of human behavior, we are on track to hit major tipping points that will render large areas of Earth uninhabitable and put the survival of our species at risk
Humanity’s struggle to respect Boundaries
Humanity is crossing Earth’s boundaries, creating an environment that is increasingly inhospitable to life
Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution poisons the land, water, and our health and accelerates global heating.
Sixth Mass Extinction as dangerous as Climate Crisis
The Sixth Mass Extinction is the first major extinction event that is preventable and a result of human behavior.
Why we Act: February 2022 IPCC Report
Coverage of the Feb 2022 IPCC report from the UN.
“Our current future trajectory is a long drawn out tragedy. We have the privilege right now to know about it, we have the capacity to act on it, and history has shown us that anybody can be part of movements for change. We have the luxury of a rich history, which can teach us about them for inspiration.”
“So we have a responsibility, but there is a mass movement here which can help to make change happen. We believe collectively in the power of good people and you can still join us because there is still time.” This talk is from the Extinction Rebellion Open Call on March 15th. Explained: February 2022 IPCC Report
Coverage of the Feb 2022 IPCC report from the UN.
The IPCC reports are written in really difficult, technical language that makes them almost impossible to understand. We filmed this discussion about the most recent report, with the help of Dr Charlie Gardner from XR Scientists, to draw out the meaning behind the technical language and explain what’s really going on.
